August Spotlight

With the launch of our new website we thought a monthly spotlight on one of the agency’s volunteers would be a great addition. In deciding this we didn’t think that choosing a volunteer to kick it off would be so difficult. But in speaking with staff and clients one volunteer stood out a little more than the rest. I would like to introduce you to Cheryl Behe.
I met with Cheryl in October 2008 and she started volunteering immediately after that. She was equally interested in assisting with reception and becoming an RSVP social recreation volunteer. Well needless to say she shone in both areas. Her eagerness to learn was outstanding. She quickly picked up both skill sets and was on her way. Outside the shift requirements of both positions if her personal life allowed for more time she was eager to give it to CMHA. When it came time for our annual Christmas Gift Campaign Sort and Wrap before even being asked she was offering to help. In January 2009 she decided to embark on a new career and went back to college while continuing to volunteer in the Clubhouse. While enrolled in the Social Service Worker Program through Georgian College she continued to volunteer in the Clubhouse and assist with reception when available. When we were contacted through the college to take Cheryl on as a student placement we were more than willing to offer her a placement with our Assertive Community Treatment Team.
Cheryl was also the recipient of the Volunteer Award for the 2009 Emerging Into Light Awards presented at our Annual General Meeting in June.
Cheryl’s hardwork, commitment, enthusiasm and passion are something to be commended. CMHA is so fortunate to have a volunteer like her. Please join me in congratulating Cheryl for our August Spotlight.
